Venturing
brings together adults and young people. Incredible
things have happened and can happen in this coming together.
The experiences that can emerge from this group of people
is up to the people themselves. The more the individuals
in the group ask of themselves and of one another, the
more possibilities they have for experiences that they'll
carry with them for the rest of their lives. For example:
A crew in Minnesota organized an activity to go sailing
off the coast of Africa; a crew in Houston sent
along experiments on a recent space-shuttle mission;
and a crew in California spent nearly 10,000 hours making
the nature trails of the Angeles National Forest more
accessible to the visually impaired by installing trail
posts in Braille to identify the forest's flora and
fauna.
What Is Venturing?
This Scouting program is for young men and
young women ages 14 - who have completed the 8th grade
- to age 20. It includes challenging high-adventure
activities, sports and hobbies that teach leadership
skills, provide opportunities to teach others, and
offer an opportunity to learn and grow and find motivation
to succeed in a supporting, caring and
enjoyable environment.
Local community groups such as professional organizations,
churches and civic groups initiate Venturing Crews.
They do this by matching the interests of young adults
with people and program resources within their own
organizations.
