What is Cub Scouting?
Cub
Scouts is a program for boys who are at least 6 years
old or in the first through fifth grades. Families
are a big part of the Cub Scouts and are welcome to
attend outings and activities. It's a great way to
enjoy your family with the lively interaction of children
the same age.
A Cub Scout is part of a Pack, which is a group of
families usually from the same school, church or area.
The Pack is divided by age groups into Dens. The Pack
meets once a month with Cub Scouts, leaders, parents
and other family members to recognize everyone for
their accomplishments that month.
Den meeting activities are planned around monthly
themes and includes games, handicrafts, hikes and
other outdoor fun, practicing skills and stunts for
the next pack meeting, and taking part in simple ceremonies
and songs. Sometimes work on advancement requirements
is included, but most of that work is accomplished
by the boys with their
parents. The Den Leaders will ask for help
from parents to share a skill or host a den meeting.
Cub Scouting provides boys with positive peer groups
and tools to shape their future. Boys learn values
that help them make constructive decisions throughout
their lives and give them the confidence they need
to grow and develop.
Cub
Scouts Do Things and Go Places!
Cub Scouting means
"doing." You have lots to do as a Cub Scout—crafts,
games, sports, songs, stories, and puzzles, to name
a few things. Much of the fun happens right in the
den and pack. The den usually meets every week, and
the pack meets once a month all year long. At den
meetings and pack meetings, Cub Scouts do different
things for fun and learning.
Cub Scouts also go to events like the annual blue
and gold banquet, field contests, and derbies such
as the pinewood derby. They go on field trips. They
go camping and have other kinds of outdoor adventures.
They take part in community events. Cub Scouts do
all sorts of exciting stuff! Whatever it is that you
enjoy, you'll have a chance to do it in Cub Scouting.
